G4W Head, GamerScore Blog Crew Among MS Layoffs

Last week, we told you about Microsoft's decision to cut 5,000 jobs over the last 18 months, with 1,400 of those layoffs taking place as soon as this month. The reason for such a measure was the weak earnings Microsoft reported in the second quarter. Surprisingly, one of the few division that saw its revenue up is the one being affected at the moment.

The Entertainment and Devices revenue grew 3% driven by strong holiday demand for Xbox 360 consoles with a record 6 million units sold in the quarter. That helped compensate the poor sales of the Zune platform reported earlier today.

The blogosphere has revealed that Chris Early, the head of Game for Windows Live, as well as the GamerScore Blog crew are among the 5,000 layoffs at Microsoft. Other people affected is the Aces stuff, the team behind the Flight Simulator series.

Dean Takahashi also got the scoop that about 30 percent of the company’s video game testers have been cut.
