Konami Reports Financials - Plans to Develop "Saw" Game

Konami has reported financial results for the nine month period ended December 31, 2008. For the April-December period, the Japanese game maker reported total revenues ¥234,011 million ($2.56 billion), a 105.1 % increase over the same period in the previous year. Net income was ¥17.82 billion ($195 million), a 117.3 % increase over the same period a year before.

Konami enjoyed these numbers thanks to solid sales of Metal Gear Online, the latest Winning Eleven and Metal Gear Solid 4, which has sold over 4.7 million copies worldwide.

The company also announced it will repurchase up to JPY 10,000 million or up to 4,000,000 shares of its common stock, or approximately 2.91% of its total shares outstanding. The share repurchase will be conducted during the period from February 6, 2009 to March 23, 2009.

Additionally, Variety is reporting that Konami has entered into a deal with Lionsgate to bring the Saw movie franchise to consoles.
